Long arm dance

For the benefit of our community, WOW presents a long arm dance every year during the US Word festival.

Carnival

A highlight of the WOW festival program is the annual Carnival that is presented during the US Word festival. Famous artists perform and the public gets the opportunity to meet them. Healthy and safe family entertainment with stalls and fun rides, as well as a beer tent for the adults are part of the day. The Carnival is indeed great value for money

WOW Students

WOW Day for Grade 12 learners

Grade 12 learners visit US Word festival and a special WOW day program is offered to them. Academic workshops in collaboration with WCED for NSC Papers are conducted, and motivational speakers have a nice interactive conversation with the learners. Information sessions on further study at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences are part of this program. The day ends with a visit to all the festivities at the US Word festivals.

WOW Day for Grade 12 educators

This is a program for the teachers of the visiting grade 12 learners. A forum discussion on issues within education takes place, as well as a writer’s program related to youth literature. Other valuable and educational information sessions also take place, as well as visits to the festivities at the US Word festival

WOW Art and culture

Painting and Verse Competition

With this competition, WOW would like to help stimulate creativity and a love for art and poetry in the younger learners. Learners must write down and decorate a poem (their own or a published poem) on A3-sized paper. The artwork with the poem on it is judged in different categories and the winners are announced in September. This competition is tackled according to a predetermined theme

WOW Debate Festival

Debaters can hone their skills and participate in informal competitions. Due to increasing interest, there are three divisions: New Brooms (teams with little experience), Old Hands (more experience), and Hard Jaws (the experienced teams). Selected WOW schools advance to the ATKV Debating Competition.

WOW Speakers

Primary schools are trained in teaching and presenting oratory speeches. Learners in grades 5 to 7 take part in the WOW Orators and challenge themselves to deliver the best public speaking speech. Educators are trained as judges and given the opportunity to judge participants.

WOW Drama Workshop

A workshop where drama teachers’ and learners’ talents and techniques are honed in writing a new text, adapting texts into a drama production, directing a production, as well as acting for actors. It is presented by award-winning playwrights, actors, and directors.
